Technology at the Heart of Backlights
Backlights employ various light sources to illuminate a display panel, ensuring that the desired content is visible to the viewer. Two primary types of backlights dominate the market:
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFLs): Once the industry standard, CCFLs are characterized by their long, thin tubes that emit ultraviolet light, which is then converted into visible light by a phosphor coating.
Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs): LEDs have revolutionized backlight technology, offering superior energy efficiency, longer lifespans, and a wider color gamut. They emit light directly, eliminating the need for phosphors.
